Africa Travel Week

Today marks the kickoff of Africa Travel Week, an event in Cape Town that’s comprising of three co-located shows – WTM Africa, ibtm Africa and ILTM Africa. By combining three travel industry events in one venue, Africa Travel Week encompass Africa’s inbound and outbound markets for general leisure tourism, luxury travel and the Meeting Incentive Corporate Events (MICE) sector. In honor of this week’s event, we spoke with Bruno Reis Neto, vice president of marketing at Sandown Tours & Incentives, a Hosts Global member to discuss trends and opportunities in various destinations throughout Southern Africa.

For clients who are interested in planning their next incentive trip, conference or special event in Africa, what are a few key factors to consider when selecting their destination?

The amount of distance the group is willing to travel, budget parameters and whether the attendees have a bit of an adventure in their souls. Southern Africa has amazing opportunities for group programs and these three factors will help to narrow site selection.

As the premier destination management company in Southern Africa, have you seen any trends in destination selection by the MICE sector?

Yes, Southern Africa is requested more and more frequently these days because of the huge drop in our currency value, hence making our destination more affordable for certain clients.

What’s proven most popular for group travel in your destinations?

Our wildlife activities and Cape Town. Wildlife because it’s exotic and trending, especially for U.S.-based clients and Cape Town because it is such a beautiful destination with great food and amazing wine.

With over 30 years in the business, your team has the developed the skills to fulfill the most complex travel criteria. What is your #1 piece of advice for planners orchestrating group travel to Southern Africa?

Preparation is key. We believe that attention to detail before the group travels is huge for the success of a program. Providing advice to ensure all elements are in place before attendees take their flights is a critical part of our operations. We want to make sure everyone has what they need to guarantee a comfortable and unforgettable experience.
