Hosts Global Liaison Team: Gabbing with Gabby
Q: What do you enjoy most about your Global Liaison role?
A: There are so many things I enjoy about my role with Hosts Global not the least of which is interacting with clients, Hosts Global member DMC’s and colleagues. I truly love playing a part in creating successful partnerships and programs that inspire attendees and provide lifelong memories for all involved.
Q: What do you find most interesting about your sales focus?
A: I am always curious to learn how clients and colleagues came into this industry – everyone has a story. Connecting to learn about their story and what’s important to them truly interests and inspires me. Making a human connection that transcends the business dialogue. I have been fortunate to have met so many interesting people.
Q: Where do you find inspiration for innovative offerings and creative concepts that “wow” your clients?
A: Creativity and inspiration comes from almost everything we encounter; magazines, books, speakers, colleagues and industry friends. I particularly enjoy brainstorming with others. I am so lucky to be surrounded by highly-creative and talented people, together we inspire each other to think beyond the norm.
Q: What’s the advice you find yourself sharing with your clients regularly about our industry?
A: We are so fortunate to be in an industry filled with passionate people. I find myself reminding clients to take advantage of their global sales contacts who are eager to share their knowledge and ease the path to success. Engage with them early in the process and invite them to be part of your virtual team. You’ll be surprised how much experience they have to offer.
Q: What are your favorite industry trends, and which would you like to see retired?
A: Creating sustainable meetings and events is the way of the future. Our industry is in an enviable position to make a huge difference in this area. Take the opportunity to attend a seminar or speak with Hosts Global about sustainability to learn how easy it is to incorporate into your meeting and event portfolio without adding costs.
It’s hard to retire a trend since attendee experience varies greatly. What works for one may not for another. That being said, I am not a huge fan of “food walls”, very cool looking but not always practical. I think guests are uncomfortable picking food off a wall.
Q: What’s something that has surprised you during your hospitality career?
A: When I was in high school someone asked me what career I wanted to pursue. I had no idea at the time, so I said that I wanted to explore the world and be a professional traveler. Talk about a self-fulfilling prophecy. This industry has been so good to me, I have travelled the world and have so many fond memories with more to come. I am forever grateful.
Q: Best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
A: Change is one thing that we can always count on in our personal and business lives, be adaptable.
