Around the office, you’re known for: Being the queen of all things Texas Hill Country Travel. Want to know which river to float with your family vs. your old college buddies? Need ideas for the Top 5 Texas Wineries to hit up for your best friend’s bachelorette party? I can get you an itinerary and map out your entire weekend in less than an hour.
Meeting or event experience you’ll never forget: During my first season working for SXSW and one of our last big events was at a new bar in the heart of Rainey Street. About an hour before kick off I get a call from my food truck vendor that their truck had broken down 2 blocks away. I made my way over to the truck where they had thrown open the hood and were scrambling to get up and running. After nervously waiting for about 15 minutes with no result and a frantic call from the client, I knew we’d need to take a more drastic approach. I radio’d my team and everyone within a few blocks came running. The seven of us continued to push the 30ft food truck down Rainey Street, maneuvering festival goers, into the backyard of the venue. After no less than a 12-point turn, we had guided the truck onto the pad-site and their team was ready to serve by the time guests walked through the front door. This experience was when I learned the true meaning of, “you don’t have to be prepared for IF things happen, you have to be prepared for WHEN things happen.”
The one Austin secret I’m willing to share… No matter how exclusive or how “hard” a restaurant is to get into in Austin, it IS doable. My Austin “hack” is that I schedule random happy hours and dinners months in advance so that I am able to secure those coveted reservations. Not only does it keep me up to date with the Austin food scene, but it creates great excuses for random date nights and networking dinners. I’ve never had a friend or colleague turn down a mid-week Uchiko Happy Hour.
Lora is a Texas girl through and through. After growing up in Lubbock and attending Texas Tech, she moved to Austin and claimed she would never leave the Hill Country again! Her first job in the event industry was working for High Beam Events planning official parties for SXSW, followed by helping build the structure for Austin’s catering and events powerhouse, The Peached Tortilla. Lora loves using her knowledge of the Central Texas food and experience scene to help curate one-of-a-kind events for her Hosts Global clients. When she’s not working, you can find her kayaking the Guadalupe or sipping bubbles on her patio.
