Meeting or event experience you’ll never forget: Creating a ‘first’ for well-traveled clients. Once during our 2018 Hosts Global Forum, when the attendees were the first to stay in the site hotel. Another memorable experience, was working on the Papal Visit to Washington, DC and getting to plan an event in Nationals Stadium – before it was even finished. There seems to be a theme of ‘first to open’ in my experiences!
The one secret in my own city that I’m willing to share… Blagden Alley is a hidden gem located by the DC convention center. This off-the-beaten path of interior alleyways offers a fascinating and storied history; but now is a booming commercial core of craft cocktails (which I adore) and coffee, street art with some the city’s most popular new restaurants and almost all of it is hosted inside beautiful historic buildings.
Marty has spent her entire career mastering the event world. Her professional background began on the client side, where she learned the event business from the ground up while working at a leading fortune 500 company. From there, she took her experience as a client and transitioned to running multiple DMC locations in the mid-Atlantic. In 2013 she joined Hosts Global, where she more than doubled the size of the global alliance of DMCs and introduced best practices and standards across the membership. She is now excited to rejoin the DC market to lead up the Eastern Division for Hosts Global. Marty was the 2018-2019 president of ADMEI and leader in the hospitality industry’s focus to drive emergency preparedness and GDPR preparation.
Outside of the office, Marty spends her time with her two girls and two dogs, and occasional foster dogs as well. She loves to cook and entertain friends and family in her home.
